Today is international overdose awareness day.
But what does that mean?
What is an overdose?
A brief definition of an overdose is when a person consumes, injects, injests or inhales a toxic or poisonous amout of alcohol, drug or medicine.
It is fair to note that not all overdoses are fatal.
So, as an employer, what can you do to support your staff who may be at risk.
First off, don't be afraid to broach the subject with all your staff. Awareness and education is key.
Secondly, allow staff who feel they may be at risk to come forward for support, not punishment. Thirdly, have support provisions in place with expert testing and support and recovery staff.
An excellent way to support your staff is through a workplace drug testing program that they believe will help.
Show them that drug and alcohol testing is not "Just another way to catch them out!" but rather a tool to help support their safety.
As ever, if anyone has any questions or concerns then feel free to drop us a message.
Be safe!
